996/986 Intermediate Shaft Retrofit Tech Night!

Postby JDaniels » Fri Jan 15, 2010 3:26 pm

Hi Guys,

MARCH 16 6:40 PM Start

Contemplating a tech night in the near future, featuring a couple of our latest projects, and a demonstration on the most 'informative' part of the intermediate shaft bearing retrofit / upgrade on the M96 engine. We have been dealing with Flat 6 Innovations (http://www.flat6innovations.com) and LN Engineering (http://www.lnengineering.com) on their products for some time (I have an engine being built by them right now), and we have installed some of their intermediate shaft retrofits with great success, saving customers HUGE amounts of money in engine replacements.

We are sold on the process, and are interested in showcasing their products for those of you that are curious (I know there are a few for sure that have showed interest, but were awaiting some others to go through with the procedure before they went that way).

What I was thinking: If you are someone whom has a 996 (must be M96 engined, so, not a GT2, GT3, or Turbo), or Boxster that really needs a clutch replacement, or maybe a flywheel upgrade is really desired and were interested in this failure preventation upgrade. Also, if it sounds appealing to witness the process first hand, and be able to have a beverage with some friends whilst your car is being 'saved', maybe you want to be the 'subject'? The only 'bonus' I can really offer is an Aasco light-weight flywheel (if the car is a 996) at a great wholesale discount, as I have one here and ready to go. Otherwise, I cannot offer much more than the 'novelty' of being able to watch with friends, and of course, some free beverages / accoutrements in accordance with a 'tech night'. But, our pricing is pretty darned good to begin with! ****Found Someone**** Thanks for all the inquiries. If it's something you are interested in, and didn't get in on this one, we can do this job on a regular service basis.

Also, I need to judge interest in the event in general. So, if you're interested, let me know **Sufficient Interest** Thank YOU!. I was thinking some time in March (as we are closed for most of February). The event will be held Tuesday March 16th at 6:40

If you have any other questions, feel free to email me: scanautomotive@hotmail.com.

Thanks again,

James

Hey James - it's jasper

I'll be there for sure, but I'm not ready for a clutch so prolly not going to be the subject. I would if I was though...I think.

I do know that Catherine and Paul - the people that bought my old 996 - are ready for a clutch. I've even talked to them about the IMS upgrade, but that was a while ago. I'll give Catherine another call if she doesn't chime in.

Let me know when the tech night is. I'm sure there will be a lot of very interested people, if only for the bevvies.

Damn! Too bad you guys weren't doing this when you did my clutch/flywheel. :)

If you want to put it in there because "you forgot it last time" you could use my car.

James,

I would like to attend and see this IMS upgrade and learn how it is different from the one that the dealer did on my car.

This is not the same thing as replacing the intermediate shaft flange / seal (which commonly leak, and are replaced as a matter of routine on many leaking M96 engined cars). We have changed many of those flanges, but weren't able to offer a bearing replacement until recently.

This is a replacement bearing and flange assembly that addresses a number of weaknesses of the factory intermediate shaft bearing, which was not intended for replacement by the factory. We have seen a number of engines replaced due to failed intermediate shaft bearings, and now, with a solution, we are able to offer a remedy / form of prevention for those engines before they fail.

I recall on several occasions, replacing the intermediate shaft flange to remedy a leak, only to find an intermediate shaft bearing in the latter stages of failure. Until recently, there was no means of repair aside from waiting for the failure, and subsequently replacing the engine in its entirety. Now, either as a means of preventative maintenance, or if a bearing is near failure, this procedure can be done quite reasonably, and with excellent results. Results include peace of mind and a significant amount of financial savings.

It's quite a bit different from what the dealer offer's....

I'd like to attend as well! This is very interesting to me. I've corresponded with Jake a few times about this in regards to my 2k 986.

I am also hoping to have a 'Jake-built' Boxster S engine here for the tech night (it's being built right now for late Feb / early March delivery), along with the Boxster-based race car that it's going in to. So, there should be some good eye-candy as well. I am expecting to have at least 3 or 4 VERY interesting cars here for the event worth looking at (aside from Kate & Paul's lovely 996), so it should be fun!

Definitely a Motorsport's theme around here with the projects that we have these days...

There's quite a bit of early interest in this event! Great!

This being said, I think we will impose a cap of 25 attendees, as otherwise, there won't be sufficient space for everyone to see what's going on.

Not to be too draconian about things...

Date / time are to be set early in the week.

Thanks again to all those interested!

Hey guys and gals,

It's almost time! (Kate, you aren't too nerdy, I'm looking forward to it as well!)

One week away. We will have some beverages and a couple of snacks on hand. Also, some pretty cool cars (doesn't look like my Boxster will be here, but the rest of the stuff is pretty cool!).

See you then!

THANK YOU all for coming. It was great to see some old and new faces in the shop. Hopefully all of you had all of your questions asked (both James and I tried to spend time with everyone whom had questions, so if we missed you, don't hesitate to call or email).

We'll try not to wait so long until we do another night.

Once again, thanks to all for coming. See you around soon (probably at the track!).
